Bigger isn’t better when it comes to #EVbatteries! One of the biggest barriers to electric vehicle uptake is range anxiety. While the median driving range of EV cars in Europe has increased to 419km – over 10% in the past two years, nearly 60% of consumers say they would not consider purchasing a battery powered EV with less than a 500km driving range. But bigger batteries are more expensive and increase GHG emissions. Doubling the EV driving range from 250km to 500km, raises the total cost of ownership by up to 23%!

Smaller batteries have bigger benefits. A new study from the International Council for Clean Transportation #ICCT reveals that smaller batteries paired with more frequent fast charging, are more efficient and cost effective especially for urban and rural commuters.

The study simulated various driving profiles, finding that while larger batteries offer extended range for long-distance drivers, for most drivers, the smaller batteries are just as effective without the extra cost, energy consumption and emissions.

It turns out the key to a greener future might be less about bigger batteries and more about smaller, smarter infrastructure.

I’m looking forward to seeing more research on EV battery #efficiency!

I’m very excited to announce the publication of our latest #lastmile #mobility study: a comprehensive analysis on the costs, complexities, and benefits of mixed e-cargo bike/e-van delivery fleets in urban #logistics.

As logistics providers work to balance rising costs and delivery demands with new environmental requirements, this study couldn’t be more timely. Although smaller form factors like e-cargo bikes are often proposed as a solution to these challenges, their integration into #delivery fleets remains understudied. This analysis makes it clear: Mixed fleets are not only economically viable, but can save logistics companies significant costs compared to a pure e-van fleet operation.

💶 Today, a large logistics provider can already save up to €156m—PER YEAR— going up to around €554m by 2030!

🚴‍♀️ 🚐 Plus, mixed fleets can help massively reduce GHG #emissions and congestion.

I’m hopeful that this study can serve as a catalyst for companies who have been considering looking beyond the electric delivery van. Mixed fleets come with additional considerations— more sorting stations, more drivers—but the benefits are worthwhile. And as cities look to reduce their emissions, support for mixed-fleet infrastructure provides an excellent starting point.

You can access the full study here— looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this one! https://lnkd.in/eDAd3gDY
