Jennifer Washburn

Jennifer Washburn is a seasoned professional with a diverse background in journalism, fundraising, and philanthropic partnerships.

Currently, she holds a key role at American Ancestors in Boston, MA, spearheading the development of a new corporate and foundation program.

Her expertise lies in cultivating and strengthening relationships with institutional donors to further the organization's mission, notably the groundbreaking 10 Million Names project focusing on enslaved individuals of African descent in the U.S. pre-emancipation.

Prior to her current position, Jennifer amassed extensive experience at New York University, where she successfully raised significant funds for various institutional priorities over more than a decade.

Before her venture into fundraising, Jennifer made a mark as an award-winning investigative journalist, author, researcher, and consultant, collaborating with prestigious think tanks like the New America Foundation, Center for American Progress, and World Policy Institute.

She is a Swarthmore College alumna with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and has been acknowledged for her writings in prominent publications such as the Washington Post, Atlantic Monthly, and Los Angeles Times.

Jennifer Washburn's impactful book, 'University Inc.: The Corporate Corruption of Higher Education,' published in 2005, led to numerous speaking engagements at esteemed institutions like the National Academy of Sciences and the Association of American Universities.
