PR PSA 💡

If you're not arming your sales team (or yourself as a founder) with earned media coverage to share with potential customers, you're missing out on a huge opportunity that:

🔥 Organically cuts down on back-and forth between prospect and sales team 🔥 Establishes 3rd party trust and credibility 🔥 Shortens the time between "interested" and "closed" 🔥 Erases trust concerns and handles objections 🔥 Makes the whole sales process easier

Note: The key here is earned media- not paid media. Otherwise, you're just sending your future customer an ad that you paid for - which is no different than sending over more marketing materials.

PR Lessons From Ex-Boyfriends 💔

Many, many years ago I had an ex-boyfriend present me with a gorgeously wrapped gift that I was SO excited (and very shocked) to open.

As he handed me the present, he said “I wanted to give you something you really love.”

I opened the box, totally excited, my mind racing with all the things it could be. I love diamonds so you know, I was hoping it was some bling. 💎

So you can imagine my surprise when I unwrapped the gift, to find an 8x10 photo of…himself.

😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒

Incredibly appalling right? Except this is what you do to reporters when you don’t offer anything but the “privilege” of covering you and your company in the media.

PR isn’t for you. It’s for them. It’s for your customers. It’s for your investors. It may seem like it’s the “me” show, but I promise if you’re approaching it that way- I already know you’re not getting any coverage.

Offer other points of value:

Access to your network - offer to make connections that can help them, even if you’re not part of the story!

Proprietary data points - if you have been doing research, let key reporters see the results first.

Industry hot gos - are you aware of something breaking? Offer tips! A journalist who knows you’ll spill the tea with them, is a good friend to have in your corner!

The irony is the more you offer, in the name of relationship building, the more you’ll see your own name in the media because when a trending topic does break that you’re the perfect source for - you’ll have about 8 hours of back to back interviews as a reward :)
