Jenny Lee

Freelance book editor and writer

Jenny Lee is a seasoned editor, writer, and publisher with a rich background in teaching university courses and developing writing and publishing programs.

Between 1987 and 1994, Jenny edited Meanjin magazine before transitioning to a successful career as a freelance book editor until 2000.

She then ventured into academia, teaching editing and publishing at Deakin University from 2000 to 2002, and later spearheading the establishment of the prestigious postgraduate Publishing and Communications program at the University of Melbourne in 2003.

While at the University of Melbourne, she served as a Senior Research Associate and program coordinator.

In 2009, Jenny decided to balance her time between freelance book editing, writing, and part-time lecturing.

Jenny Lee's academic journey started with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in history at The Australian National University (ANU) between 1971-3 and 1975, followed by a Master of Arts (MA) in history at ANU from 1977 to 1980.

Her interests lie in exploring the dynamics between print and electronic media, as well as delving into the rich history of print culture.

Jenny Lee has contributed to various publications, including 'Spirit of the Spine' (to be published in March 2013 in collaboration with photographer Viv Méhes), 'Barry and the Fairies of Miller Street' (co-authored with Barry Dickins, published in April 2012), and 'Making Modern Melbourne' (published by Arcade Publications in 2008).
