This Monday was truly my “from one day to day one” moment, an absolute dream-came-true as I started a new position at Meta Reality Labs, working on the exact thing I’ve dreamed to work on as a professional - AR. Thanks to my manager Fangwei Lee for giving me the opportunity to work on the AR that is beyond filters and more on the utility side, aiming to add meaningful values to people’s lives.

There are too many people to thank for this moment that came a lot earlier than I expected.

First, I was fortunate to know Michelle Cortese from an internship recruiting fair back in 2019, who introduced me to the potential of AR and opened a whole new door for my passion. She has continued to support me whenever I seek guidance or encounter setbacks.

Second, I can’t thank my mentor, Paul Lim enough. He has been a strong support and an awesome mentor. He helped me stay true to myself and find confidence in my voice and actions. His caringness, patience, and warmth are beyond my expectation.

In addition, I am grateful for my peer, Jiacheng Y. whose truthful feedback and genuine helpful nature inspired me to present my work in the best way I could.

Last but not least, I want to thank my partner Raviraj and myself. This day didn’t come from a straight path. I derailed from my passion, but I kept my seemingly irrelevant AR work and experience on my resume and my portfolio because I didn’t want to give up the hope to work on something I am truly passionate about as a living. There were countless setbacks, but I want to give myself the credit of having the grit to pursue my dream and never gave up. And I want to thank my partner for being my rock in life, my mentor in my career and a strong emotional support as I went through the ups and downs.

There are a lot more of you I want to thank. If I’ve ever chatted with you through an invite on LinkedIn, then you are who I am talking about!

I also am grateful for my experience at TikTok. It was definitely a wild ride and an unique experience that got me a lot of stories to tell. Most importantly, I gained some of the most talented and brilliant friends. You know who you are. Without you, my life in the bay would be very different.

And now, I get to put my AR experience and knowledge gained from my grad program, ITP (Interactive Telecommunications Program) to use and work on something along the exact line with what I developed in my grad program. I can’t believe this moment came earlier than I would ever dreamed! I am super excited to start my new job and a whole new dream-came-true chapter of my life! With great excitement comes with great pressure as well, this is just the beginning. #newjob

Last note, I’ve been so happy at Meta as it emphases on “building relationships” which aligns with my own value. I wouldn’t be where I am today without networking. For those who are still in doubt - networking isn’t about having someone get you a desired job, but building a genuine relationship with them.
