Highlights
"People mistake skepticism for cynicism." The Killer, David Fincher
The struggle is real.
For anyone in Data Science or Analytics where your job has been to be the bearer of bad news, the mirror, or the sanity check...we've all heard this before - you're a "cynic" - we'll hear it again.
Stay the course, keep speaking the truth, and focus on being right. Nothing else lasts longer.
-- The Killer is a fantastic dark thriller. Watch it now on Netflix. --
"You think you're saying you were right all along. What you're actually saying is that you were ineffective."
I mentioned this to a member of my team this last week after a particularly heavy backwards looking meeting rife with, "I said this was a problem multiple times six months ago and no one listened." As you become more senior, you are less and less able to lean on the "I told you so".
Note: I'm not without guilt here, as I've not been able to prevent decisions from happening that clearly shouldn't have been made in my past. Punching up is hard at times, but it's the job.
