Jeremy Kranowitz is a passionate sustainability "ecopreneur" with over 25 years of experience in environmental advocacy, coalition building, and innovative problem-solving. His career is marked by his commitment to collaboration among diverse stakeholders to address pressing issues such as climate change, food waste, carbon sequestration, and nuclear power. As a recognized leader in the sustainability sector, Jeremy has successfully launched and managed two environmental nonprofit organizations and has been instrumental in the formation of multi-stakeholder coalitions aimed at finding solutions to some of the most complex environmental challenges of our time.
One of Jeremy's significant contributions has been his role in building the Further with Food coalition. This public-private partnership brought together government agencies, trade associations, and hunger-relief organizations to create impactful strategies combating food loss and waste. Furthermore, he designed a strategic partnership with NASCAR, which not only generated over 1,300 meals donated to those in need but also diverted more than 5 tons of food scraps from landfills to compost and increased recycling efforts, demonstrating effective collaboration across various sectors.
Jeremy's expertise extends beyond coalition-building; he is also a charismatic keynote speaker and panelist, often presenting at national and international conferences, including the Global Climate Action Summit and the White House. His reach is amplified through media appearances, including engaging stories on ABC News and NPR, as well as providing testimonies before the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). His workshops dedicated to risk communication and stakeholder engagement have informed and inspired participants across the United States, Australia, and Canada. He has shared his knowledge and expertise widely, both in formal presentations and through participatory workshops.
Jeremy's educational background is rooted in environmental science and public policy, with a Master of Science in Environmental Science and Policy from The Johns Hopkins University and a Master in Public Administration focused on Public Policy and Environmental Management from New York University. Additionally, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Social and Behavioral Sciences from The Johns Hopkins University, laying a solid foundation for his work in sustainability.
Currently, Jeremy serves as the CEO and President of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc., where he continues to lead efforts to enhance the region's environmental landscape through community engagement and sustainability initiatives. He has also played pivotal roles in other organizations, including a former Managing Director for Sustainability at Hazon and as the President and Executive Director of Sustainable America. His extensive experience includes serving as the Director at the Center for Education and Senior Mediator at the Keystone Policy Center, and as the Director of the Southeast Clean Air Campaign at the Izaak Walton League of America, among other positions. His early career even saw him in a knowledge management role at McKinsey & Co., Inc., further solidifying his comprehensive understanding of both the sustainability sector and strategic partnership management.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Jeremy is also deeply committed to his community and family life. He enjoys spending weekends on his stand-up paddleboard or searching for sea glass along Long Island Sound with his wife and three children. This personal passion for nature mirrors his professional dedication, and he brings this enthusiasm into his work, striving for a sustainable future for generations to come.
