My pre-teen daughters and their friends are blasting music, now that Shabbat’s over, which coincides with my first opportunity in 25 hours to fire up my email.
When my kids were younger and went to sleep earlier, the nights were a good time to catch up on work.
As they’ve gotten a bit older, the nights have become a great time to connect with kids who are growing up way too fast.
And the early mornings now are sometimes better to catch up on work. Except when the little kids have a dozen nighttime wakeups.
When I can’t function at my highest level, I’ll at least catch up on emails, so my colleagues and clients know I’m on top of things.
But the real work can wait until the dance party ends, or until I get a bit of sleep, or whenever makes the most sense that day based on my workload and family considerations.
If your work product is consistently efficient, on time, and high quality, then nobody’s going to care whether you did billable work on a Saturday.
