🔮 Excited to share our latest Hannah Grey VC Cultural Vibrations Report. In this issue, we tackle topics that have been top of mind and discussed/debated internally, including:

  • The Alarming State of AI-Generated Deepfakes: Only ~30% of F500 companies have implemented comprehensive deepfake detection, and 91% of people cannot distinguish between real and deepfake images. The need for detection solutions is acute.

  • The Great Smartphone Unbundling: Many people old and young are realizing that they are addicted to and/or overdependent on their smartphones, and that unlimited access to social media content has made them unhappy. This is especially pronounced with Gen Z, who some have suggested feel a distinct generational feeling of anemoia - a nostalgia for a past that they have never known. What does a world with less screen time look like?

  • Parents & Students Debate the Value of College: 77% of parents still believe that college is worth the cost, but only 36% of Americans at large express "high confidence" in the value of college-based higher education, down from 57% a decade ago. For a growing number of families, there is a building tension between the promise of a traditional 4-year degree vs the pragmatism of pursuing skilled trades.

We're also fortunate to have contributions from members of our Hannah Grey network:

  • Adam Arola PhD MBA of Goodby Silverstein & Partners offers book recommendations at the intersection of technology, biology, anthropology, and spirituality that he believes can help us think about the way the world has, is, and will continue to transform - specifically with a focus on our current cultural landscape.

  • Brand Marketing and Creative leader Grace Gordon unpacks the phenomenon that was "BRAT Summer," with a modern take on the importance of "energy marketing" and the crucial role that cities and authentic URL to IRL (and vice versa) cultural connectivity plays in an era of ever-shrinking brand budgets and emphasis on lower-funnel marketing activity. Special thank you to Ana Andjelic for allowing the re-print from The Sociology of Business.

We'd love to know what you think! Link to download report below in the comments.

Excited to see Hannah Grey VC portfolio co glystn Ethan Fassett breaking out as a thought leader around AI driven insights and social monitoring. Maintaining alignment between your brand values and creator partners is crucial - yet increasingly challenging to manage at scale, particularly given the cultural instability.

Great feature in Forbes in the link below - if any brand/agency friends want an intro, let me know :-)

"Another powerful resource are comments on social posts. Ethan Fasset, CEO/Cofounder of Glystn, an AI-driven community engagement engine, believes “comments are an untapped goldmine of insights in creator marketing.” Traditional analysis methods often overlook the valuable information buried in hundreds of thousands of comments across multiple social platforms. Glystn’s proprietary AI makes these comments addressable as a marketing tool, allowing brands to quantify the most and least popular topics of conversation, identify the most engaged audience members, and measure the overall impact of content choices. Understanding what consumers and audiences actually value helps brands and creators optimize content and make more informed decisions about future campaigns.Fasset explains, “The activity in the comments section represents the most engaged and vocal users. With Glystn’s AI, brands can objectively quantify these conversations and understand what actions to take based on community feedback. For instance, tech creator Marques Brownlee (MKBHD), a highly successful YouTube tech creator with more than 20 million subscribers, uses Glystn to capture specific feedback on what his audience likes and dislikes which ultimately helps him craft better content. This level of insight is now available to brands, allowing them to see detailed themes and discussions within their target communities.”
