From the very start of my career in Brand Assurance, I've been in a constant battle against MFA (Made for Ads) domains. I'm actually a little bewildered why just NOW these domains are making an impacting uproar!

My efforts in brand assurance are to persuade brands to steer clear of these domains, dominated by issues like ad clutter, clickbait, ad fraud, and intrusive ads, have been relentless. (I have lost count of how many times I've rolled my eyes vetting domains and seen awful ad placements or ridiculous clickbait tiles.)

Working closely with my team, we've developed stringent criteria to determine the maximum allowable number of ads on a single domain, ensuring that domains failing to meet these criteria are excluded from our inclusion list.

However, the solution goes far beyond just managing our inclusion list. We must engage stakeholders across the advertising ecosystem, including publishers, SSPs, Ad Networks, and DSPs, in discussing wasteful MFA domains. This is crucial not only for sustainability efforts but also to address the cost impact on the marketplace.

Additionally, the prevailing issue of MFA domains is exacerbated by rigid KPI structures and the relentless pursuit of the lowest CPM. It's essential that we reevaluate our KPIs to strike a balance between efficiency and quality. Accountability in tackling MFA domains should extend to all facets of the digital advertising ecosystem.

I'm pleased that we're taking this issue more seriously now. It's high time we establish clear definitions for MFA domains (it can no longer be, "I know it when I see it"), collaborate with verification services to prevent brands from wasting their budgets, and instill accountability and transparency at every level of the digital ecosystem.

These are my reflections on the matter. I am eager to engage in an open conversation with anyone who is passionate about addressing the challenges posed by MFA domains. I could "complain"- (right, I'm kidding) converse on this topic for hours.
