Jim Linfield is a seasoned professional who has dedicated his career to serving entrepreneurs and investors within the realms of public and private technology companies, venture capital, and private equity funds. With a rich background spanning various industries such as biotechnology, medical devices, information technology, clean technologies, and natural products, he brings a wealth of experience in areas such as public and private financings, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic alliances. Jim Linfield was instrumental in establishing the Colorado office of Cooley in 1993, marking the firm's pioneering presence in the region, and he subsequently led the office for two decades before passing the baton to his partner while continuing to be actively involved in legal practice.

As a recognized legal expert, Jim Linfield has been honored by Chambers USA, ranking in Band 1 for Corporate/M&A in Colorado. He has also been acknowledged by the Best Lawyers in America publications for his outstanding contributions in various categories including Venture Capital, Securities Regulation, Mergers and Acquisitions, Leveraged Buyouts, Private Equity, and Corporate Law. Before joining Cooley, he gained valuable experience in the biotechnology industry as the CFO and general counsel of Somatogen, Inc., successfully guiding the company through an initial public offering. Prior to this, his tenure at the Denver law firm of Davis Graham & Stubbs further enriched his legal acumen.

In addition to his legal endeavors, Jim Linfield is deeply engaged with the University of Colorado, holding influential positions such as Chair of the Board of Directors of the University of Colorado Foundation, and membership in the Executive Board of the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship and the Advisory Board of the BioFrontiers Institute. His commitment to fostering innovation is evident through his co-founding of the Colorado Cleantech Industry Association and his service on its Executive Committee. Furthermore, his involvement on the Board of Directors of the Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority showcases his dedication to community development.

Born in Bozeman, Montana, and primarily residing in Colorado, Jim Linfield balances his professional pursuits with a diverse range of personal interests including skiing, cycling, golf, fly fishing, and oenology.
