Earth Day is everyday 🌎

So, forgive me for being a few days late with this post...

This past Earth Day, April 22, J I M M Y introduced JIMTAGE - a platform for perfectly curated vintage tees, tanks, and everything in between. Selectively sourced and hand-picked by me. 😎

When I discovered vintage shopping as a teen in the 90s (❗) I was immediately hooked. I loved the idea that someone had pre-loved something special, that there was a story attached to it, and I was going to continue that story by adding it to my closet. Also, in the back of my mind, I knew that buying something already made was probably better than buying something new, which felt pretty good.

Decades later, we're clearer on this than ever: Fashion has a huge impact on our environment. From water consumption, to carbon emissions, to textile waste; Fashion is the third most polluting industry, and produces about 10% of our annual carbon footprint. 😲 When you break it down, the amount of textiles and garments that end up in landfills each year is about 81.5 pounds of product per person - or, a garbage truck's worth of garments ends up in landfills every second... 🤯 (via Earth.Org and Retail Dive)

I want J I M M Y to be one of the brands doing the work and setting the standards when it comes to what products we produce and how. Producing locally and in small runs, using overstock fabrics that may otherwise end up in landfills, and sourcing natural and recycled fabrics are a start - and more to come!

This was a fun project for me and I'm looking forward to growing it. But, mostly I'm hoping JIMTAGE adds to the conversations around fashion sustainability and responsibility, and encourages people to look at what we buy and why we're buying it.

Because one person's tee is another person's treasure. 👕 ♻ 🌎

This #InternationalWomensDay, I want to acknowledge and thank the incredible women who have educated, supported, inspired, and driven me towards being my best, both personally and professionally.

I've been beyond fortunate to be surrounded by strong women throughout my life—from my grandmother, a single mother who raised my mother, to my mother who juggled raising two children while working two jobs, to my sister managing both her career and family life, and all the other remarkable women I'm proud to call family, friends, and colleagues. I am in constant awe of their resilience, brilliance, strength, and power.

I look forward to a near future where women's achievements, getting their rightful places at the tables, and equal pay (pay women more, I say) are not exceptional milestones but simply the standard – a reality we should've been living in a long time ago.

Celebrate women every 👏 single 👏 day 👏.
