You only have to search #iserec24 to see some of the highlights from this years ISE Student Recruitment Conference. With 400+ attendees over 2 days it’s always my favourite event of the year – an amazing opportunity to catch up with old friends, make new connections and hear everyone’s views on the hot topics in the industry (AI, data, outreach, candidate experience, f2f vs hybrid, Gen Z preferences, Inclusion, Diversity…the list goes on). The biggest surprise for me this year was that it was also so much more than that…. moments of JOY included: 🙌🏼Karen Luckly-Tang receiving her Fellowship 🤫 Stephen Isherwood confessing (IYKYK!)🤣 Stephen Seki having us roaring with laughter 🔥Marshmallows & ‘campfire conversations’ by Andrew Wright Clare Beynon and the team 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Meeting @Elizabeth Linder Bruce Daisley Nic Marks and learning so much from their insights and experience (all of whom also indulged me by saying yes to a photo, thank you!) 🌱 Presenting with Laura Yeates - Chartered FCIPD Caroline Jones @lisamarris Victoria Harvey Stuart Marriott on the great work we are collectively driving on sustainability in early talent 🏆 And finally topping off the event by celebrating 14 winners in our ISE Awards 2024.

🙏🏻 This conference was a huge reminder to me of the power of our community, of the value of connection and the importance of collaboration (and I daresay some positive co-opetition too!). This was also my first conference as Chair of the board and I have to thank those who have nudged me on the way - this continues to be quite a wondrous learning journey (especially balanced alongside a busy day job at Accenture, 3 kids and a home renovation project) but I feel so grateful to be surrounded by an epic network of support and positive vibes!! 💫 Jessica Grundy Helen Lorigan Sam Turnpenny Simon Rogers Cath Possamai Gianina Harvey-Brewin Lucy Hegarty Diahann Abraham Joy Blackburn Georgia Greer Vivienne Wootten Sarah Hathaway Stephen Isherwood Clare Power Leora Eimear Mc Nabb Khairunnisa Mohamedali, PhD Simon Reichwald Rebecca Fielding Saj Jetha Stephen King Bob Athwal Laura Anderson Jade Pearson Naomi Kellman James Austen Damian Riley Helen Cooke

One week since I had the huge privilege of attending the NACE conference in sunny Phoenix! A wonderful opportunity to represent Institute of Student Employers as Chair to learn more about the North American market. My expectation was that the conference themes would be vastly different vs those I attend in the UK but I was surprised to learn of many shared challenges and opportunities: 🌵 Whether you are an employer, a service provider or a college/ university that EVERYONE is feeling the squeeze (under-resourced teams, reduced budgets, multiple plates spinning etc). It can be hard to remember when we are in our own organisational ‘bubbles’ how important it is to act with empathy to truly enhance those cross-industry partnerships (aka no one has it ‘easy’ right now!) 🌵 Both markets are on the brink of some big political changes with elections looming – the anticipation of what this will mean in each country is definitely at the forefront of people’s minds. It could be a gamechanger for education and employment but a case of ‘wait and see’…. 🌵 EDI has been a strong focus globally and there is some great work happening in this space but I was so interested to learn more about the challenges the HBCU network is facing to ensure lasting meaningful engagement for employers and students. There is a sense across both geographies that some employers may have lost momentum on diversity hiring - how can we be sure we are not just virtue signaling? 🌵 There is a move towards skills based hiring which also creates a huge opportunity for service providers in this space. How we marry this focus alongside hiring for potential will be important if we are to also achieve our wish for a more diverse workforce! 🌵 AI - this hot topic has featured at every event I have attended this year, no one has an easy answer to all the questions raised but I really enjoyed hearing from Nicky Garcea Dan Black Manny Contomanolis, PhD Fred Oswald Marie Artim Dawn Carter on some of the positive opportunities it unlocks. 🌎 With 17,000+ members the NACE network is HUGE. The conference drew together 2,300 from all 50 states. Our ISE conference later this month (plug there are still tickets available!!) will be slightly smaller but just as beautiful. 💫 The power lies in the sense of shared responsibility- collectively we can truly change the game in Early Talent hiring, whether it’s championing the under-represented or bringing the most high impact innovations to life in our respective markets. 🌍 These conferences are a strong reminder of how important it is to create as much cross-industry (and where possible global) collaboration- the more we SHOW/SHARE with each other the STRONGER the change will be. 🙌 Thank you to Shawn VanDerziel Stephanie Pallante and all the industry greats who made me feel so welcome – you rock! 🙏
