Prior to his current role, Joao directed and co-produced the world premiere of 'The Curing Room' under his previous company, Stripped Down Productions, at the 2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The production, a gripping thriller by David Ian Lee, received rave reviews, garnered enthusiastic audiences, and achieved notable success at the box office. It later had a successful run at Pleasance Islington.
In 2012, Joao produced the critically acclaimed 'The Sea Plays', featuring three one-act plays by Eugene O'Neill, staged at London's Old Vic Tunnels. Joao's extensive experience includes serving as an assistant director for various theatre productions at prestigious venues such as the Hampstead Theatre, Theatre Royal Bath, London’s West End, the Long Wharf, and the Source Theatres in the USA.
Joao also contributed his talents to the television industry, serving as an assistant director for the BBC's 2015 TV productions 'Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell' and 'Coolbox', directed by David Farr. He has lent his expertise to the film industry as well, working on notable films like 'The Golden Compass' and 'And When Did You Last See Your Father'. Joao holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and received acting training at the Drama Centre in London.
