We recently expanded the group of software engineers that work on Hai, HackerOne's large language model. To help them become more confident in iterating on components such as system prompts and the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) layer, we added integration tests that uses large language models to test... large language models. This helps validate a set of predefined prompts against a set of rules of how the language model should respond. We turned this into an RSpec matcher to make it trivial for anyone to contribute. We use this to test things like its primary use cases, defenses against prompt injection attacks, persona, and conversation style. We can also use the same test suite to test out entirely new models to better understand how other models perform and respond.
