Highlights
This was week I ticked featuring on BBC #TheOneShow from my bucket list!
Of course, I was only there to represent The Children's Society and our campaign to bring down the costs of school uniforms; in the same week we launched #TheGoodChildhoodReport which raised the alarm bells on the #HappinessRecession unfolding across our nation for children and young people - demonstrating the backdrop against which financial pressures and rising inequality are having a material impact on the health of teenagers
So it’s been an incredible privilege and honour to speak out - along with Mark Russell 🇺🇦 and colleagues; because ultimately we’re just a microphone to amplify the needs, experiences and stories of children across the UK; it’s a time when young people deserve to be at the top of every agenda
Please do share our report http://bit.ly/GCR24
And if you’re in a position to help - we’re giving hope to more young people through our appeal here: https://givehope.uk/ - where you can buy uniforms for children that most need them

Teenagers in the UK are facing a happiness recession. The findings set alarm bells ringing as our children's happiness is in decline.
This year’s The Children's Society research has hit me even harder than usual: as a Dad to a 15yo girl who has not had the easiest of teenage years, I was not surprised but both saddened and angered to learn that 15-year-olds in the UK have the lowest average life satisfaction compared to their peers in 26 other European countries. And the decline in happiness is particularly stark for 15yo girls (as well as children from more disadvantaged backgrounds).
Ben Kentish led a thoughtful hour of debate with LBC listeners in reaction to our report, I was grateful to join the conversation at the start and recommend you listen to the chat, particularly Ben’s heartfelt framing of the implications for our research and some great insightful contributions from listeners.
