Very sad a dear friend Vince Power passed away this week. The Guardian article notes many of Vince’s achievements in the live music business and receiving a CBE. The article doesn’t mention how he built the Mean Fiddler without investors or backers. It doesn’t mention Vince’s fearlessness as a promoter; his passionate belief in artists, and while he was a tough businessman, he was a very generous soul mate. I was fortunate to be a partner with Vince, Maurice Cassidy, George Wein, and Laura Lauchlan on producing multiple Guinness Fleadhs 1997-1999 across America. We shared a vision of the Irish diaspora and it’s influence on songwriting with artists as varied as Van Morisson, Sinead, Shane, Paul Brady, Christy Moore, Natalie Merchant, Tracy Chapman, John Lee Hooker, Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, Billy Bragg, Wilco, Richard Thompson, Squeeze, John Prine, Neville Brothers and many, many more. Vince was devoted to building new clubs, venues, and events. He was a champion of the underdog, and always loved good stories and good wine. Vince Power RIP.
