As Thanksgiving nears, I wanted to reflect on the startup I co-founded - a venture with humble beginnings that evolved into an unforgettable journey.
Our origins began with a group of friends bonded by tech and video games 🎮. Our mission was ambitious: to connect gamers meaningfully with games and each other through a social-first platform. We ran many experiments including a 3D world where our community could discover, meet, and interact as 3D avatars 🌐.
The pivotal moment came in 2020 when we hosted a groundbreaking esports job fair entirely inside one of our worlds. Witnessing thousands of live participants and hundreds of sponsors participate in shared experiences and make new connections was nothing short of magical 🌈.
We started to get attention 🚀. We were accepted into the 500 Global accelerator, rebranded as Inverse, and secured over $1M in funding. Partnerships with blockchain, gaming, and consumer brands made us feel unstoppable.
However, growth had its challenges - including a turbulent web3 and crypto industry, economic volatility, and internal issues. Timelines extended, financial constraints loomed, and eventually, we ran out of funding - leading to the tough decision to close down earlier this year 😔.
Through highs and lows, to receive testimonials from the 60k+ individuals who made new connections, discovered opportunities, and shared laughter on our platform - and on our virtual dance floor and bar - it’s beyond words 🙏.
Looking back, I would have done many things differently. But, will I ever regret the startup journey? Absolutely not. I learned a lot and grew as a person, founder, and leader. With all things considered, it was a dream come true.
