No one likes puffy pipeline...
❌ Not the AE / BDM who knows they are including half-baked deals trying to represent they have enough to hit quota.
❌ Not the Sales Manager who needs to demonstrate that they are getting their team to prospect sufficiently to create it.
❌ Not the CRO who won’t be able to deliver on the commit to the CEO.
❌ Not the CEO who will miss their projections at the next board meeting.
Let’s fix this.
-
Establish a defined sales methodology and common language (mandatory)
-
Begin REAL pipeline reviews - not just asking for best case, likely and commits (we know how these shake out)
-
Insist on having authentic conversations with customers to gauge real interest and define where deal risks exist (get real)
NOW we can identify the TRUE GAP to quota, the GAP in pipeline coverage, the GAP in capability, the GAP in marketing, the GAP in product.
✅ Time to document a gap closure plan with input from all relevant stakeholders (and heads of department) as well as schedule regular leadership briefings on progress, by department.
🔥 Hot tip - Quota achievement is a team sport played by every member of the company…not just the revenue team.
Once we uncover the real issues that prevent us from building real pipeline, we are then able to focus on fixing actual challenges to accelerate our revenue growth.
Real pipeline = transparency, forecastability, growth and longevity.
