<p>Johanna Birkland is a passionate researcher with a keen interest in Aging and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) use. Her work takes a life course perspective, exploring how experiences across the lifespan impact ICT use and meaning in later life.</p> <p>Her research interests revolve around life course and ICT use, the influence of work on ICT use in older ages, and the relationship between the aging workforce and ICT use and development. Johanna focuses on understanding generational impacts on ICT meaning and usage, as well as how ICTs can foster inter-generational understanding.</p> <p>Johanna Birkland holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems with a Certificate in Gerontology from Syracuse University. She also earned an M.S. in Instructional Design from Syracuse University, an M.S. in Communication Management from Ithaca College, and a B.S. in Biological Sciences and Psychology from Cornell University.</p> <p>Currently, Johanna serves as an Assistant Professor at Bridgewater College. Her previous roles include being an Instructor at Syracuse University, Instructional Design Graduate Assistant at Syracuse University's School of Information Studies, Graduate Assistant at Syracuse University's School of Information Studies, Graduate Assistant at Ithaca College, Independent Consultant as a Private Contractor, and Preservation Assistant at Mann Library.</p>
