Hospitals in the US (and worldwide) should be required to have a minimum number of on-hand quantities of disposables (gloves, gowns, booties, etc.) and capital equipment (ventilators, etc.) Many other for profit industries already operate under this crucial tenet of minimums. Think banks, stress tests, etc.
Before we hear about just-in-time inventory, depreciating assets, and inventory carrying costs, please consider the human cost of not having required minimums.
