BASEBALL BROUGHT US TOGETHER. HUMANITY SMILES !! As I sit in my office watching the World Series Champion Atlanta Braves being honored with a gigantic parade through downtown Atlanta, I am struck by the wonderful unity and celebratory feeling of this celebration. Atlanta has waited 26 years for a World Series Championship but this celebration is not limited to Atlanta and Georgia. People have driven to Atlanta just for this parade and celebration from Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee.
Black, white, Hispanic and Asian are elbow to elbow cheering and yelling as their favorite team waves back at their adoring fans. Joc Pederson, the former LA Dodger, is throwing his trademark pearls to the screaming fans. Jorge Soler, the MVP of the World Series and a Cuban immigrant, was smiling ear to ear as his fans cheered and yelled his name.
Atlanta has long been called "The City too busy to hate" and this celebration, brought together by a professional baseball team, clearly illustrates the nature of human beings and, especially my friends and neighbors who cheer the Braves.
One image that caught my attention today was of a black father with his two sons standing next to a white male and his wife with their two sons. Side by side they waved and cheered and high-fived each other. Their sons stood beside each other relishing a moment that may not repeat itself for another 26 years.
This moment in this city brought together by this team clearly illustrates that we are NOT a racist country and we have way more in common than some would have you believe.
Chop on, Atlanta and our country. And thank you to the Atlanta Braves for providing a moment for us to celebrate humanity and our commonness. Hopefully the smiles and cheers will continue long after the parade is over.
Thanks to all my Linked In friends who took the time to wish me Happy Birthday. It may seem like a small thing but your good wishes mean a lot to me. Thanks for thinking of me. I am grateful for my enduring friendships.
