With a proven track record in securing funding, John successfully obtained and oversaw a $2.5M grant from an external agency and secured an additional $2.5M in internal funding for the creation of innovative technical infrastructure. John Chapman's educational background includes a B. A. in Religious Studies from Macalester College, a Master's in Library and Information Science from Dominican University, and studies in Buddhism, Political Science, and History at the University of Peradeniya.

Additionally, he has worked as a New Metadata Ventures Product Manager at OCLC, Technical Writer at JAMF Software, Metadata Librarian at the University of Minnesota, Researcher in Web Access Projects & Services at the Minnesota Historical Society, and Project Archivist at the Minnesota Historical Society.
