John Duncan

Race Director at Highland Fling Ultramarathon & Devil o' the Highlands Footrace

John Duncan, also known as "Johnny Fling," is the Race Director of the Highland Fling Ultramarathon and Devil o' the Highlands Footrace.3 He took over the Highland Fling Race in 2012 after being asked by the event's creator, Murdo MacDonald.1 The Highland Fling, which began in 2006 as a training run for the West Highland Way Race, has grown under John's leadership to become Scotland's most popular ultra and one of the largest in the UK.1

John runs the Highland Fling as a non-profit event, with all entry fees going towards race expenses to provide runners with the best possible experience and value for money.1 On race day, he coordinates a team of around 200 volunteers who dedicate their time to support the event.1

In addition to the Highland Fling, John has been the Race Director for the Devil o' the Highlands Footrace since at least 2015.2 His commitment to the ultrarunning community is evident in his continued efforts to organize and improve these events, fostering a supportive environment for runners and volunteers alike.
