John Stewart

John F. Stewart is a distinguished professor emeritus with extensive experience in academia, specializing in entrepreneurship education and developing country health economics.

Having served as a faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for nearly four decades from 1975 to 2014, John F. Stewart retired from his position on June 30, 2014.

During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in founding and directing the Entrepreneurship Minor as part of the Carolina Entrepreneurial Initiative. This program, established in 2005, continues to enroll 100 students annually.

John F. Stewart's research interests predominantly focused on the economics of health policies in developing countries. As a fellow at the Carolina Population Center since 2001, he led significant projects, including evaluating the Gates Foundation's Urban Reproductive Health Initiative across India, Kenya, Nigeria, and Senegal.

From 2005 to 2012, he was actively involved in a Dutch government-funded project aimed at enhancing the capabilities of faculty members at eight medical schools in Vietnam in health economics and policy analysis. This dedication led to him being honored with an honorary professorship at Hanoi Medical University in November 2012.

John F. Stewart holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.A. in Economics from UC San Diego, underlining his strong academic background and qualifications in the field.

His impressive career includes roles such as Professor of Economics, Visiting Associate Professor of Economics at Rice University, and Director of the Entrepreneurship Minor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

His specialties in entrepreneurship education and developing country health economics have contributed significantly to the academic landscape, making him a respected figure in these domains.
