John Gallon

Mechanical Systems Engineer at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory

John Gallon is a Mechanical Systems Engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). He is currently working on the Europa Lander project as the mechanical lead.1 Gallon started his engineering career at the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division.2 At JPL, he is involved in the development and testing of landing gear for the proposed Europa Lander mission, which aims to search for signs of life on Jupiter's moon Europa.13

Gallon's work includes preparing and testing flight-like landing gear in the Europa Lander landing gear testbed. This testbed is designed to simulate the landing conditions on Europa's surface, including reduced gravity and the mass and inertial properties of a flight lander.1

As a JPL Mechatronics Engineer, Gallon has also been involved in discussions about NASA JPL's future technology outlook, presenting at conferences such as the AIAA SciTech Forum 2023.3
