John Mott

Associate Professor, School of Aviation & Transportation Technology at Purdue University

Dr. John H. Mott is an accomplished individual with a strong background in aviation, transportation, engineering, and academia. He currently holds the position of Associate Professor in the School of Aviation and Transportation Technology at Purdue University.

Dr. Mott's educational journey includes a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, a Master's degree, and a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alabama, where he graduated summa cum laude.

Apart from his academic achievements, Dr. Mott also holds various FAA certifications, including a Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument and Multiengine ratings, a Flight Instructor Certificate with Airplane Single-and Multiengine and Instrument ratings, and a Ground Instructor Certificate with Advanced and Instrument ratings. He also has type ratings in several aircraft models.

As the Director of the Advanced Aviation Analytics Center of Research Excellence (A3IR-CORE), Dr. Mott leads research focused on enhancing transportation systems' safety and efficiency through data analysis and mathematical modeling. His work aligns with the National Academy of Engineering's Grand Challenges, particularly in urban infrastructure improvement.

Dr. Mott is actively involved in professional organizations such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the University Aviation Association (UAA), the Transportation Research Board, and the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). He chairs the Signal Processing and Communications Society Chapters of the Central Indiana Section.

With a diverse professional background that includes academic positions at Purdue University, editorial roles in aviation publications, and managerial positions in engineering companies, Dr. Mott brings a wealth of experience to both the academic and industry domains.
