Last Saturday, I delivered the commencement address to the Penn State University College of Arts and Architecture. To be part of those graduates’ special day and to speak directly to young creatives as they set out to imagine a better world was an incredible honor! I talked about the importance of living with a profound sense of #wonder, and it got me thinking: What if Penn State hadn’t taken a chance on me? What if my education had gone another way? As someone who is #neurodivergent, I had the portfolio but not the test scores. To say it simply, the course of my life changed because one person took the time to get to know me — something I strive to pay forward. I want to recognize that one person, Professor Raniero Corbelletti (1922–1988), to whom I’m forever grateful, and to thank B. Stephen Carpenter, II for your friendship and the invitation to proudly return to my alma mater.
