Are we in a recession? We just met with 20+ investors and here's what we learned:
I get this question almost weekly among different investors and entrepreneurs. In tech, it certainly seems so sometimes but looking at the numbers:
-If you look at GDP, growth has slowed but is still positive over each quarter, even when accounting for inflation. -Unemployment rate is holding steady at 3.4%, the lowest it has been in quite a while -The NASDAQ and S&P500 have all rebounded since the beginning of the year -Inflation rates are stabilizing from 9 to 5% (TBD what the Fed does as a result with interest rates (5.25%)
It seems we are in a promising time for things to stabilize. However, what are we looking at going forward?
-IPO market is still low. Only 65 IPOs (mostly smaller ones) this year with 1035 in 2021 -The VC market is down significantly (message me if you want a report about funding here) -Startups extended runway and most have about 18-36 months of cash when the start of the downturn happened, that amount will be running out at the end of year
Please add your thoughts below about the next year and what will happen.
