Highlights
After almost 13 wonderful years with Agoda, I am wrapping up my last day today. It has been the adventure of a lifetime. I still remember when all of us fit on half a floor in downtown Bangkok, back when we were struggling just to gain a foothold in Asia.
I want to give a special thanks to Michael Kenny, who came to Thailand with the idea of making a travel company, Robert Rosenstein, who cofounded the company with Michael and with whom I worked side-by-side for over ten years, Omri Morgenshtern, who was there to take us further ahead when I felt it was time for something new, and to Glenn Fogel for buying Agoda (too bad that was before I joined, but still) and bringing all of Booking Holdings to where it is today. Hats off to all of you.
But the biggest thank you goes to everyone at Agoda — the few hundred who were there when I began, the many thousands who are with the company today, and all those others in between. Every day with you was a new adventure. I am honored to call you my colleagues and I can’t thank you enough for all you’ve done.
And now time for the inevitable clichés. What am I doing next? Spending time with family, seeking out new opportunities. What advice do I have? Nothing other than to treat people well, work hard, be curious about everything, and to realize that if you’ve stopped having fun at work, you’re doing something wrong. (I never stopped having fun at Agoda, FYI.)
I can’t wait to see you all again as friends, and who knows, maybe colleagues too.
Until then, onward and upward, over and out,
John
Big news for Omri and me. Congratulations sir! Agoda has a great future in store!
