I've seen several takes on PropertyGuru Group being taken private - loads of positive posts on the deal representing yet another exit in Southeast Asia and how the ecosystem here is maturing!

The exit was supposed to happen when PropertyGuru began trading in New York in 2022 at a roughly $1.8 billion valuation. This deal has to do with arresting its valuation fall.

PropertyGuru is a story of a good asset, which remains a financially healthy business due to its debt-free operation, finding little interest from US investors, eventually leaving its backers TPG and KKR no choice but to look for a buyer to save their investment!

My colleagues Ngoc Nguyen and Kavitha N. have this analytical take on the deal and this is a great read (it is a paywalled 🔒 story - subscribe and support our work and our reporting will help you professionally)

While everyone is talking about Shein confidently filing for a London IPO, my colleague Eudora Wang takes a look at their financials from its regulatory filings.

The Singapore-headquartered company’s revenue grew 4.1 times year on year to $21.6 billion in 2022, while its net profit more than tripled to $633.6 million, according to a filing, while its net profit margin of nearly 3% marked a drop from the previous year’s 3.75%.
