Highlights
Company goals are NOT achieved by chance.
There are systems that helps you achieve goals and if you don't know what I'm talking about, chances are you don't have one and you're consistently missing targets.
But even the current systems most startups follow (OKRs, EOS, etc.) lack a refined process around experimentation.
You simply can not improve company metrics without a rigorous approach to testing.
Let me give you an example of how to do this:
Goal/Objective: Improve efficiency of our outbound channel so SDRs can deliver $50,000 in monthly new AAR pipeline (currently at $25,000).
Hypothesis Development: Beginning of quarter, brainstorm hypotheses as to why SDR efficiency is lacking. Use qualitative and quantitative analysis to help inform your reasoning and to develop hypotheses you can test. Come up with 10-20 ideas.
Stack Rank Opportunities: Stack rank your ideas to determine what you want to test this quarter. Do this by identifying what has high potential impact, what is fairly easy to test (and not too expensive), and estimating likelihood of success to score opportunities. Choose 3-5.
Execute & the Measure/Learn: Get to work running these tests and make sure the back-end can support the tracking of initiatives. Report on learnings.
Build the system.
Create accountability in the system.
And watch your metrics move.
Russell Briscoe and I support First-Time CEOs running Venture-Backed Seed to Series B companies and help them overcome growth challenges that many face in the early stages. Most of these businesses lack systems and processes around organizational management, which leads to poor communication, unclear alignment, and a lack of accountability across the business. Ultimately, this shows up in underperforming teams and missing of company revenue and new customer acquisition targets. Reach out if you want to connect.
You're not missing growth goals because you simply need to hire an SDR to make more dials, you need more leads, or you need to refine your sales funnel.
You're missing revenue or new logo targets because you haven't developed a system for growth.
What happens is, you end up throwing "fix" after fix at the problem.
The system, if implemented correctly, will fix your growth problems.
The system will identify root causes of stalling growth.
The system will uncover poor performers who have been hiding for years.
The system has a lot components, but high-level is based on increasing levels of accountability at the company, dialing in your focus and prioritization across departments, ensuring you have the right people in the right seats, and tracking the right KPIs to gauge whether you're on track or off track.
Get the system implemented and watch a lot of your problems go away.
