Highlights
Today is the last day on the air for Gimme Metal and Gimme Country. I refuse to be totally sad about it, just because of everything we accomplished in the past seven years since Tyler Lenane, David Rosenberg, Andy Gilliland and l started dreaming up the service. The outpouring of love from the community since we announced the shutdown has been immense. Our community members have talked about how the stations have changed their lives for the better, as they've been able to connect directly with their favorite artists and other fans. In the week since we've announced we're ending there's been almost 50k comments in the chat from community who expressed how much they've love the service. That says everything you need to know about their passion for the music, their favorite artists and Gimme.
Most importantly, it's been rewarding to put money directly into artists pocket and help them connect directly with their fans. Instead of asking artist to learn a new tool and make less money for access to artists like some services, we believe that the best thing is to let artists connect directly with their fans. I firmly believe that this is future for creating new revenue streams for artists.
We didn't accomplish everything, no doubt. In the product development world, you are always haunted by what you weren't able to accomplish. And a service like Gimme, which had such great plans, but could never fully fulfill our lofty goals because the lack of funding, is no exception. But today I'm grateful that the Gimme team did accomplish much of what our original charter laid out.
I will be forever grateful the for the team of people who built and ran Gimme throughout our history, especially employee no 1, Linda Ryan, Tom Pepper, Bobby Gaza, the great Brian Turner, Adam Bouck, Ted Neranchi, Dean Rispler, Jimi Palacios, Bri Thomas, Henry Rich, Joshua Claflin 曹睿, Jack Reyer, Rachel Cunningham, Randy Kruzan, Kerry O'Brien, Lud Isabegian, Christina Engel,Fernando Perales, Jim Santanella, Monique M., Mike Cooper, Ben Allen, Rory Smith, Steve Salazar, Josh MacAdam, and so many more I'm sure I'm forgetting.
I still believe that the Gimme Way is the model of how fans will engage with artists and other fans in the future. Maybe Gimme didn't succeed this time, but it's not over. Not by a long shot. Want to be part of this in the future? Let us know.
Onwards!
