Highlights
The Post picked up a part of this issue today in a narrow piece on Potentual Effects of Project 2025 on government contracting. We believe that this is not simply a partisan issue. The short answer: whoever wins the election in November, it's going to be a tough year next year for DC's government sector and the broader business economy. It's hard to think strategically right now for sure -- the overall atmospherics around this election are deeply distracting-- and to say "oh well, politics don't matter" or "this election is about social issues" isn't going to be a good planning strategy for those of us building companies or businesses in this region. Feel free to ignore politics or get heavily engaged. But, either way, understand that as Neil Young used to say, "rust never sleeps." Change is coming, and you'd better get ready. Got time for a new podcast in your rotation? Mark Walsh and I have come together to relaunch What's Working in Washington! This one-hour news magazine will run on WFED Thursdays at 1pm and be available on all the streaming platforms. Mark and I have done radio together for a while now, and we love talking about the things that we care about. This month's show is a good mix of what we enjoy -- my interview with the author of a timely book that will make you think about the election more closely, a regular series with foreign correspondents learning how America looks from an outside perspective, and our various musings on what's hot, what's not and the things that we are watching in the Greater DC region. A place that we are proud to be part of.

Jonathan Aberman and Mark Walsh explore new trends, share media recommendations, and interview author Corey Brettschneider. "The Presidents and the People: Five Leaders Who Threatened Democracy and the Citizens Who Fought to Defend It" examines how citizen movements have resisted presidential abuses of power by appealing to a democratic understanding of the Constitution. From Ida B. Wells to Daniel Ellsberg, American citizens have brought the United States back from the precipice at crucial moments in our nation's history. Aberman and Brettschneider discuss how that resonates today and where to find hope for restoring a fragile democracy. Listen on Apple Podcasts:
