Highlights
Whilst the negotiations between countries and their delegations reach a somewhat predictable impasse as the deadline for an agreement approaches, I take a moment to reflect on some of the highlights of #COP28 from my perspective. Firstly, the quality of the content and conversations amongst a diverse group stakeholders attending the event were impressive and timely. These are not the sometimes stale high-level conversations held in the boardrooms between world leaders, but rather the real talk and action on the ground amongst the broader community who are certainly moving. Asset owners, asset managers, development finance institutions, corporates, entrepreneurs, policy makers, community leaders etc. have grasped the risks that exist, and are actively working on the solutions and associated opportunities. This includes some of the partners we are working with at #AXAIMAlts who we were pleased to see telling their story MOMBAK, Sistema.bio / Sistema Biobolsa, Carbon Clean and The SHARED WOOD COMPANY. Finally whilst tackling climate change has always been the focus of COP, it was very pleasing to see #health recognised for the first time as a major theme heavily exposed to the impacts of climate change and therefore taking its own place on the agenda. At #AXAIMAlts we have intentionally developed our #impactinvesting platform over the past decade to be thematically focused on these two areas: #climate and #globalhealth so we leave #COP28 with clear direction, momentum and a renewed purpose to deliver positive impact outcomes for people and the planet.
