“Destiny is not necessarily what we get out of life, but rather, what we give.”
- Carey Grant On Friday, 09/29/2023, members of the Aldrich Capital Partners DC office took time off from Excel financial models and picked up some farm tools. It is ACP’s second Day of Service in 2023, we spent the entire morning volunteering at the JK Community Farm, which “donates its yield in partnership with Loudoun Hunger Relief, Food for Others, Arlington Food Assistance Center, and DC Central Kitchen and works to increase access to fresh produce and protein to the food insecure…” In my previous life prior to Washington DC, I spent time volunteering at a soup kitchen in Downtown Los Angeles. Ingredients for my food preparation duties were generally sourced from donations of soon-to-expire groceries from local supermarkets. It is incredible JK Community Farm is able to provide fresh organic produce to the food insecure (to the tune of 771,924 lbs) and all of us at ACP were grateful to be able to play a part. We spent most of our morning in sweet potato harvest preparation work. The work was far from easy but it was fulfilling knowing our hard work along with other volunteers on site made a tremendous impact to a 150-acre farm that only has 3 staff members. Although we do not see the happy faces of people who will eventually receive the yields of the farm, but we are grateful to play a small role in the process. Lastly, I am grateful for the firm’s steadfast commitment in community engagement. I am proud to be a member of ACP, and proud to have colleagues who share the same passion and enthusiasm to help those that are less fortunate.

This made me think of a quote from Cary Grant, “Destiny is not necessarily what we get out of life, but rather, what we give.” Wow.
