Highlights
I'm often asked to explain my interest in web3 in conversations with friends who "just don't see the value in crypto/NFTs".
I totally understand, and in some ways share this point of view.
This article in Forbes is one of the best I've seen at painting the bigger picture.
Email is an identity management tool more than a messaging tool. You sign into EVERYTHING with your unique email address and it carries an immeasurable amount of personal data.
The good news is it's easy to use. The bad news is it's easily hacked and 3rd parties own your personal information.
In web3, having digital assets requires a wallet. The wallet is unique identifier. The wallet will new email address. We will sign into everything with it. (eventually, we'll probably message with them too)
The difference will be who controls the data associated with the identifier. In web3, self-custody of PII is possible. It's exciting and also harder to hack.
