Highlights
SLMs or small language models are coming. Forget about the fact that GPT-4o is already 67 times more cheaper or 0.05% the cost. It's 0.0005% the cost of and outperforms it by a mile the best you could get a year ago. We haven't even started developing Small foundational language models. Today if you're developing a Gen AI solution for the financial industry your probably best of using GPT-4 or Claude 3.0 (We haven't tested mini yet). This simply doesn't make sense in the long run. Small models benefit:
- Cost
- Latency
- Infra
- Debugging
- Fine tuning
- Deployment
I predict 2025 is going to see a lot of small language models.
