Don’t let people gaslight you into thinking you need…

  • A personal brand to build a business
  • A fancy website to appear legit
  • SEO blogs to start growing
  • Content to build authority
  • Ads to scale revenue

All of these things do work.

But the advice on LinkedIn is usually very generic to appeal to the masses.

There isn’t a magic bullet for growth.

Find where your audience is, then double down on it.

Look at what competitors are doing, and do it even better.

But don’t let generic advice from those shilling courses and templates make your feel as though you’re constantly failing.

The worst thing you can do is nothing.

But it can be even more ineffective trying to do everything.

Focus, focus, focus.

I will never forget the first client we signed.

We started our business in the worst possible time…

The pandemic.

Me and Delia were isolated in tiny village in the middle of nowhere in France.

We went there to try to build our website, services and work on an offer.

Then literally out of nowhere…

Somebody messaged us on LinkedIn and asked for an urgent call.

It was Finance company looking to run lead-gen ads on Facebook/Instagram/LinkedIn.

They asked if we could speak that same day.

I was terrified.

We’d never ran a sales call before.

Fast forward to the call…

I remember changing into a polo shirt to appear smart (lol)

and standing up for the whole call.

We spoke about goals, timelines, creative assets, budget, etc.

It wasn’t as bad as I imagined.

At the end of the call, we were honest and mentioned that we were a brand new agency.

(So new that our website looked like a lasagne dropped out of a skyscraper)

But, I knew that we could help them.

I went into detail around my experience with running ads in-house, etc.

They were happy and asked for a proposal.

This is the funny part…

I remember spending 7 HOURS, and staying up until 3am writing the proposal with Delia.

  • We changed pricing 5 times.
  • We changed the scope of work 3 times.
  • We changed the design of the proposal 2 times.
  • And almost had a mental breakdown in the process.

But we got there in the end, and we sent the proposal the next morning.

We got a call that afternoon and they said they wanted to start at the end of the week.

To say we were excited would be an understatement.

We were jumping around and cheering like we’d won the euro millions lottery.

For us, we had won the lottery.

That one client gave us the confidence to go full throttle with the business.

I’ll remember that day for the rest of my life!

P.S. This also set an unrealistic expectation for client acquisition. We had 0 'inbound' leads after this.

P.P.S. We were able to generate 2,800+ leads for the business over a 16 week period, with a 2.8% conversion rate and 6.3X ROAS. Happy days.

I will never forget the first client we signed.
