Jordan Kurland

Partner at Brilliant Corners Artist Management and Noise Pop Industries

Jordan Kurland is a prominent figure in the music management industry, serving as a founding partner at Brilliant Corners Artist Management. This organization, which has offices in major cities such as San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle, represents a diverse roster of artists, including well-known bands like Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service, and Toro y Moi.12

In addition to his role at Brilliant Corners, Kurland is a partner in Noise Pop Industries, which is responsible for producing and promoting various music events in the Bay Area, including the Noise Pop festival and the now-defunct Treasure Island Music Festival, which ran from 2007 to 2018.12

Kurland is also actively involved in philanthropic and political initiatives. He served on the Entertainment Advisory Committees for both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton's campaigns and has been instrumental in launching projects that raise funds for voter rights and reproductive rights, notably through digital music compilations that have collectively raised significant amounts for these causes.12

Moreover, Kurland has a background in arts advocacy, sitting on the boards of organizations such as the Stern Grove Festival and the independent publisher McSweeney's. He has also contributed to various artistic and social initiatives, including the "Future Soundtrack of America" compilation and the "30 Days, 30 Songs" campaign during the 2016 election.12

In his earlier career, Kurland founded Zeitgeist Artist Management in 1999, which continues to operate alongside his current endeavors.1

If memory serves correctly, which admittedly, it doesn't always these days, Jay Blakesberg was amongst the first people I met when I moved to San Francisco in 1995. He was the go-to photographer for Primus whose manager, David Lefkowitz , I had recently begun working for. In a nice, full-circle moment, I'll be interviewing Jay at the The Contemporary Jewish Museum on Sunday, February 25 at 1 PM. Jay has an incredible career retrospective up and we'll be discussing the stories behind his photographs as well as the San Francisco music scene over the last few decades. I hope you can make it and if not, I strongly encourage you to visit the CJM to see the exhibit. It will be on view until July 28. This program is being produced in conjunction with Noise Pop Industries and Reboot.

Soon after I was born my mother Rose was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. At that time, mood disorders were not discussed openly, and there was very limited access to support. In 1978, in the living room of my childhood home, my mom launched the National Depressive and Manic Depressive Association (now called the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance – National Headquarters or DBSA), an organization that provides resources, education, and support for those contending with mood disorders as well as their loved ones.

As a way to honor my mom's work and vision on the occasion of her 79th birthday last week, my sister and I launched a campaign to raise money for DBSA. Follow this link to learn more, watch some mildly awkward videos of us speaking about her legacy, and -- most importantly -- support the organization. I am matching the first $10,000 in donations and would greatly appreciate any amount you are able to give.

Thanks so much in advance for your support; please pass this along to anyone who you feel might be interested in learning more about DBSA.
