Highlights
There is a developer boom emerging on Discord, especially with sticky apps in the #GenAI space that people want to bring to conversations with friends. Discord's platform lends itself to helping devs accelerate adoption once they launch. Our social infrastructure, developer tools, and built-in audience make it a really exciting place for the next great consumer apps to build. 🛠
Great story Kellyn Slone and Ben Shanken. BTW, Mike Polner is hiring a platform marketing leader who will be a key player for this work. 👀
Discord is giving friends the best things we’ve always needed in communication technology. For my fellow genYers, it was IMs (cue the infamous dial-up bleep boop beep scrrr…you’ve got mail!) and hogging the land line for hours. Long before social media turned our internet habits into scrolling and broadcasting (I see the irony here) - this was how we spent quality time with friends outside the malls, classrooms, basketball courts, and weekend birthday parties. Discord brings talking and texting with your friend groups to one place and the product is incredibly fast, reliable, and inherently fun. This is why I joined Discord three years ago - to build a communications team for the company reimagining digital communication.
Speaking of which, here’s a great piece my wonderful team just landed that hits on some of these important areas of distinction for our company.
“These days, Discord is looking to create an experience that’s more AOL Instant Messenger than MySpace. The platform is less about self-presentation and more about connection—which could be a competitive advantage at a time when the social media winds are shifting.”
