LA City Attorney’s Office Ambassador to the Olympic Games/FIFA World Cup

Jose A. Egurbide is a seasoned professional currently serving as LA City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto's Ambassador and Liaison to the 2026 World Cup and 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

He previously held the position of Chief of the Criminal Branch at the LA City Attorney's Office from 2019 to 2023, bringing with him extensive experience and expertise in various facets of criminal justice.

With a career spanning over two decades at the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, Jose has contributed significantly to the field. He began his journey in 1995 and progressively took on roles of increasing responsibility and impact.

During his tenure, Jose vertically prosecuted narcotics street sales-related offenses, supervised the Neighborhood Prosecutor Program, and spearheaded initiatives such as the Skid Row Safer City Initiative and Project HALO, focusing on assisting the chronically homeless population.

His work also extended to the Complex Litigation Section, where he played a key role in litigating civil enforcement actions. Notably, he was involved in prosecuting a substantial Medicare fraud scheme highlighted in a 60 Minutes Special report.

From 2014 to 2019, Jose established the innovative Neighborhood Justice Program (NJP), a Restorative Justice-based initiative diverting first-time, non-violent misdemeanor offenders from the traditional criminal justice system, earning national recognition for this model.

As an advocate for positive change, Jose organized the groundbreaking Mindfulness Summit for Criminal Justice professionals and facilitated City Attorney-led Community Vision Conversations, fostering dialogue among diverse stakeholders.

Apart from his professional roles, Jose has been actively involved in academia, teaching Restorative Justice at Pepperdine Caruso School of Law's Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution and obtaining certification as a mediator.

His areas of expertise include Restorative Justice, Diversion Strategies, Mindfulness, White-Collar Crime, and Neighborhood Revitalization, reflecting his commitment to innovative approaches in addressing legal and social issues.
