In today's world, we occasionally hear news of social incidents related to design flaws, particularly due to the absence of human-centered design.

Just 2 weeks ago, an incident involving the ADN party allegedly receiving 90,000 votes meant for the AD coalition due to usability problems, was eloquently explained by my colleague Vitor Carvalhinho.

Last week, discussions in the media revolved around the 122,000 votes considered null from emigrants, 1 𝐢𝐧 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 3.

Nullifying an emigrant's vote due to confusion over the "correct procedure" is like 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐞.

It was time to voice my thoughts through an opinion article, advocating for a human-centric approach to easily address the issue of null votes.

I challenged two colleagues, Maria Miguel Rosmaninho and Darya Birchanka, to rethink voting instructions (thanks Miguel and Darya for your help).

The outcome of this exercise, as showcased in my article published on 𝐎𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 last Friday (https://lnkd.in/dvspW2Nx), demonstrates how human-centered design is the key to solving these kinds of problems.
