Director of the IOBA's Retina Research Group at IOBA- University of Valladolid,
Dr. Jose Carlos Pastor Jimeno is a distinguished Ophthalmologist and academician with a rich history of contributions to the field. He obtained his MD degree in 1974 and a PhD degree in 1975 from the University of Navarra, Pamplona, Spain. His expertise led to an Ophthalmologist certificate at the University of Zaragoza in 1977. Through his career, he achieved the status of a Full Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Santiago de Compostela in 1979 and subsequently became the Chairman of Ophthalmology at the University of Valladolid in 1981. Noteworthy is his role as the Founder and Director of the prestigious IOBA (Eye Institute) of the University of Valladolid in 1994. Furthermore, Dr. Jimeno served as the Vice-Chancellor of Research at the Valladolid University from 1987 to 1991 and has been the General Coordinator of the Thematic Network in Ophthalmology of the Carlos III Institute of Health since 2012.

Our PhD student Oscar García-Espinilla has won the award for the best scientific communication in e-poster at the OPTOM2024 international congress for the presentation of the work entitled “Variation of the position of the foveal fixation axis between the sitting position and supine position and its possible influence on the refractive surgery”.
