Joseph Stafura is a professional with a diverse background in research, teaching, mentoring, operations, marketing, and technical skills.

With a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology/Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh, Joseph has a strong foundation in Lab-based and in-situ research, structured interviews, learning & educational assessment, human electrophysiology, and cognitive modeling.

During his time at the Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC) at the University of Pittsburgh as the Grants Administrator, he managed an active award portfolio of over $40M and worked with numerous Principal Investigators from federal and non-federal funding sources.

Previously, Joseph co-founded The Affective Computing Company where he served as the Chief Cognitive Scientist, involved in product design, content development, customer success, and operations.

His academic background includes teaching a range of courses such as Cognitive Psychology Seminar, Cognitive Psychology Lab, Research Methods, Experimental Psychology, Behavioral Statistics, and Adolescent Psychology.

Joseph's mentoring experience includes programs like LRDC Undergraduate Summer Research Internship Program, First Experiences in Research, NSF Pittsburgh LearnLab/PSLC REU Program, and Hot Metal Bridge Post-Baccalaureate Program.

In operations, he has managed product-market research, customer journeys, and utilized tools like JIRA, Confluence, Git, and Hubspot.

With a strong technical acumen, Joseph is proficient in statistical software, MATLAB, R Software Environment, basic Python, Adobe Creative Suite, EEG systems & software, E-Prime Experimental Software, and more.

He has contributed to over 10 peer-reviewed articles and chapters, with a focus on reading comprehension, and has presented at numerous national and international conferences.

Throughout his career, Joseph has held various roles such as Grants Administrator, Chief Scientist, Adjunct Professor, Cognitive Scientist, Graduate Teaching Fellow, Co-Founder, Research Assistant, and Market Researcher at organizations like University of Pittsburgh and Thrive.
