Highlights
First month of 2023 is in the books and majority of it was reflecting on everything my team and I did with Shimmerwood Beverages in 2022. We had a lot of takeaways, what went well, what our challenges were, and how we can learn from all of them in 2023. Instead of talking all about the company's highs and lows, I want to speak more to my personal experience as a business owner in an ever changing and challenging market.
I'll start off by saying I am hypercritical of myself, which at times can bleed into the way I communicate with my team. The intrusive thoughts of, "If I'm not working on this, no one is", and the classic, "There is ALWAYS something to do", definitely went through my mind countless times all year long. #entrepreneur life am I right? While I try to tell myself these thoughts are going to help me progress forward to get the company to a place I want it to be, I realize I am missing the point of why I started a company: to continue learning, growing and most importantly, enjoy the process.
Yes, the company has goals to continue increasing revenue, decreasing costs, gaining exposure, expanding our territory, yada yada yada. How I accomplish all those goals though starts from a personal level, how I carry myself and treat myself on a daily basis. Instead of getting angry or impatient with myself, teammates, or partners and try to do the job myself (hello group projects trauma), I will focus on letting the process be. Not everything happens instantaneously, in fact most things don't contrary to what we all may see around us, another reminder I will be telling myself.
For all my fellow business owners, entrepreneurs, creatives, anyone really, do you experience this feeling of more always needing to be done quicker? How do you handle it, whether you're operating solo or working with a team? Exposure to friends' and competitors' wins are ever apparent, I am more curious to learn about the personal struggles and how you get through them for the better.

We partnered with Dignity earlier this year and donated Shimmer Seltzer to help fight a cause that is close to our team. There is so much potential for CBD and THC to help curb harmful addictions and look forward to helping Dignity anyway we can.
Our business partner, Chuck tells his story on why he wanted to start Shimmerwood and why we chose to partner with Dignity.
