Most athletes move on from the market they played in, to a different city in pursuit of their next chapter. This brings about new connections and relationships, mostly centered around work, interests, and family— opposite of their playing days where their individual interests were amongst teammates which sprouted friendship and business opportunities.
Upon retiring, many athletes grapple with an identity crisis — a significant shift from the defined roles on the field, to an unscripted path beyond sports.
In social and professional settings, a retired athlete may be asked the worst question during this transition; “so, what do you do (for work)”
The easy answer to avoid not having a real answer is something like “I use to play in the NFL” or “I’m retired and get to golf all day.” Both stem from an insecurity and is a tactic to change the subject. As a former athlete, I want you to know I was once important, but the way I go about telling you that information makes or breaks having a real connection with someone; potential friend, business partner, investor, you name it.
Navigating this transition is tough, and may take many years, if not decades to truly find an answer to this question. Your average Joe who retires at 67 after a long tenure as an IT Consultant, doesn’t have to worry about this dynamic. “So what do you do now, Joe?” “I’m retired after 34 years as a consultant, I golf all day” This may work for him, but not us. How old are you, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s?
LYNQ gives us the power to connect, collaborate, and communicate with each other. Whether you want to announce a get-together at your local bar during happy hour, extend an invitation for a couples' date night, or organize a golf foursome or tournament with likeminded people, LYNQ is the space for you. You can even build on your legacy by organizing events for your non-profit with the help of our community, or create value for yourself and your peers by initiating hangout’s with potential partners and investors.
This is where the magic will happen. From this, business ideas will generate. Relationships will form. Philanthropic missions will have support.
