Highlights
As we celebrate the naming of Ane Maersk, I feel extremely proud of Maersk’s commitment towards net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, exceeding the International Maritime Organization's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 70% (against 2008 levels) by 2040.
The Ane Maersk is the world's second methanol-enabled container vessel (and first "large" vessel of its kind), following the Laura Maersk that came into operation in August 2023.
While groundbreaking today, it is important to remember that methanol-powered vessels are part of a journey towards the real solutions to carbon-zero shipping, due to limitations in methanol production and lack of widespread infrastructure. As an industry, we need to continuously explore and invest in longer term solutions (potentially hydrogen, ammonia, advanced biofuels?).
With all the recent news revolving around armed conflict, disruptions, price gouging and shortages, Ane Maersk is a welcome reminder of the potential for the industry to collectively create a better, cleaner future for all of us.

Good read. Sharing an article that summarizes the disruptions already being faced in the logistics world, with hints of what may come in 2024.
"Global supply chains are entering 2024 roiled by disruptions at two of the world’s crucial trade corridors—the Panama Canal and the Suez Canal—even as geopolitical tensions appear set to take a more prominent role in sourcing and distribution. That could potentially force countries and companies to redraw trade maps that have been built over decades.
At the same time, startups and longstanding businesses are establishing the new supply chains behind clean energy, including the operations backing an automotive sector that is a foundation of manufacturing logistics networks.
All of this is buffeting supply chains from semiconductors to consumer goods, pressing companies that sought to bring greater resilience and flexibility into their operations to act in a fast-changing manufacturing and shipping environment."
