I was honoured to be part of the Kenyan delegation that accompanied H.E William Samoei Ruto, President of Kenya, on his historic state visit to the United States. The visit revolved around advancing partnerships, trade, and investment, resulting in significant milestones for both nations.
It was a moment of great pride for me to represent the bank in the Business Deal Signing Ceremony held during the U.S. – Kenya Business Forum at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce where it was announced that we will be partnering with Acorn Holdings Limited, an established real estate developer, to mobilise $700 million in long-term blended finance commitments to address the pressing demand for quality student housing in Kenya. Upon approval of the transaction, Acorn Holdings, renowned for its pioneering work in revolutionising student accommodation with purpose-built student accommodations (PBSA), will use the funding to construct 35 certified green housing projects, translating to an additional 48,000 student beds.
In attendance were players who have been instrumental in our success. This includes our President and First Lady, the US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, Kenya’s CS of Investment, Trade and Industry Rebecca Miano,EGH , US Ambassador to Kenya H.E Meg Whitman, and representatives from both the Kenya and U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Special acknowledgment to Prosper Africa ,MiDA Advisors , U.S. International Development Finance Corporation for their pivotal roles in facilitating this venture. Our success in this endeavour underscores the power of cross-border collaboration. As we return home, we return with a bolstered belief in the pivotal role of private sector investment in driving the continent’s growth. This deal, among others signed during the visit reflect this.
