My family and I could use a little love and support today 😔

Today, abruptly and unexpectedly before a planned call I had with him— I lost my grandpa (who was really a father to me), the cornerstone of my courage and curiosity.

He was the man who ingrained in me the spirit of “Why not?”—the belief that true regret only stems from opportunities not taken.

He was an extraordinary soul who infused every moment with laughter and levity, transforming even the mundane into a some of my biggest moments of delight and uncontrollable laughter.

He wielded humor like a shield, but behind the jokes and jolliness, he possessed a formidable resilience. He was tough not for toughness’ sake but to mold us into our best selves, teaching us to rise every time life knocked us down.

Yet, his heart was as tender as it was tenacious. Grandpa would be moved to tears by the simple purity of a film like Rudy or to the tune of Kenny G, which he’d try to hide behind his characteristic laugh-cry of absolute genuine emotion.

He played many roles—coach, dad, grandpa, husband, Cookie Monster (no cookie was safe), and many more. Each identity was layered, rich with love and life lessons.

Losing him leaves a void that makes me ache profoundly, a testament to the depth of his influence and the bond we shared. Though he’s no longer here physically, I carry the essence of his spirit—his strength, his humor, his love.

Farewell, Grandpa. You were my hero, my mentor, my joy.

As Mickey (our neighbor) used to say, “it’s not goodbye, it’s till next time.”

I love you, endlessly.

Someone very close to me, a seasoned sales professional, has been tirelessly navigating the job market for months.

Despite customizing resumes, networking on LinkedIn, and investing 15-30 minutes per application, the result has been a string of constant rejections.

Driven by curiosity and wanting to test the system myself—without leveraging my network—I submitted my own applications.

With a background as an ex-founder who’s raised $16M, a product manager for over 15 years, and a history of successful tenures at well-known companies, the results were shocking.

I too faced rejection from over 75 applications—a stark contrast to the nearly 100% success rate when using my network.

This revelation was eye-opening.

Through discussions with recruiters, a stark reality emerged: they are overwhelmed by the sheer volume of applications and rely on bots to filter candidates, still ending up with more than they can effectively review.

Often, they only skim the first few words of each resume bullet.

Is our job application system merely competitive, or is it fundamentally flawed?
